How we adapt the curriculum and learning environment for children & young people with SEN

We adapt the curriculum and learning environment for pupils with SEN through our recognition that:

Children develop skills in different ways and learn at different rates. To accommodate this, teachers and teaching assistants adopt and incorporate a range of teaching and learning styles to ensure all pupils are fully involved in lessons. At some time in their school life, children may need extra help, and this is often provided by 1:1 or small group work, which offers a more personalised, specific approach.

We are also aware of the need to adapt the learning environment, where appropriate, to ensure pupils have the necessary resources to accommodate their needs.

We talk to parents/carers, through structured conversations, if a concern has been identified.  This allows us to explore what further monitoring or action may be advisable and what support can be offered.

In terms of targeting our approach, with individual needs in mind, school will seek advice and support from a range of external agencies and professionals to ensure a suitable programme of work is in place. This will be regularly reviewed with parents and carers.

More details on how we adapt information, our environment and curriculum can be found in the Accessibility Plan which you ca find in the School Policies section of our website.
