Birthday Books
At St. Patrick’s, we like to celebrate birthdays and we know that parents and children often like to mark this special occasion with the class. We have recently found a way to not only allow everyone to share in a child’s celebrations at the time, but to provide a lasting reminder of the birthday for years to come.
Instead of bringing cake or sweets into school, we ask that pupils who wish to share a gift with their friends, donate a ‘Birthday Book’ to the school library. This is a lovely way for children to have their special day remembered and for the library to remain well-stocked at a time when funding may not otherwise allow.
For ease, we have created Amazon wish lists, available here.

If you would like to purchase a book directly from the list to mark your child’s birthday, you can choose to have it delivered straight to school with a message from you in the parcel. When it arrives, a book plate with your child’s first name, age and the year will be placed in the front of the book. Children will be invited up in assembly to share their book with the school. It will then be placed in the school library so that children can enjoy it for years to come!
If you are keen to purchase a specific book which is not on the list, please contact the school office so we can add it for you or purchases can be made from any other retailers and handed in to school.
Of course, gifting a book is entirely optional. We do, however, ask that cake and sweets are not sent to school. We hope that you and your children are as excited about this new idea as we are. We love birthdays and we love books; this seems the perfect way to marry the two!
