National Schools Breakfast Programme
We are delighted to announce that St. Patrick’s has become part of the National Schools Breakfast Programme. The aim of this programme is to ensure ‘…no child starts the day too hungry to learn.’
Funding for the programme comes from the Department of Education and is delivered through a partnership of two charities: Family Action and Magic Breakfast.
What does this mean for us?
- We will still be offering child-care supervision, with the usual breakfast menu options, from 8.00am – 8.45am at a cost of £2.00 per child. We are able to hold the cost at £2.00 from 2019 because of involvement in this programme.
- Additionally, every child in the school will be given the option of a healthy, warmed bagel each day – delivered to classrooms at 8.45am by classroom monitors. Portion size will be appropriate to age, according to programme guidelines.
- Family breakfast will still operate and dates will be shared, in advance.
We are very excited to be involved in this initiative, which will continue, initially, up to July 2020. The transition will be easier now that our pupils are already coming into school from 8.45am. If you wish to make use of the child-care element of our morning provision from 8am, please contact Mrs Clarke in the school office. For those families already making use of the 8am start, no further action is needed.
We hope all our pupils take full advantage of this scheme are arrive in good time (8.45am) to enjoy their breakfast treat, before it gets cold!
It is important to stress, for health and safety reasons, parents/carers will be expected to park outside the school grounds and walk into school with children so pupils can be registered for each session.
